Hidden coastline. Real wrecks. Real stories.
The Shipwreck Coast Experience takes you to parts of the Namaqualand coastline that most visitors will never see -- hidden bays, wild beaches, and the actual sites of shipwrecks that have rested on the ocean floor for over a century.
Drew Cloete brings these wrecks to life with stories that combine maritime history, survival accounts, and community memory. Some of these stories come from his own family -- people who helped in rescue efforts or who grew up hearing the legends around the table.
The experience includes beach walks, photography stops at dramatic cliff-top viewpoints, and Drew's personal narrative that transforms each site from a ruin into a living story.
Drew can help coordinate accommodation options when you book. Availability changes by season, so early booking is recommended.
Meet Drew at the Klein Oqis base. Brief overview of the day, safety notes for the coastal terrain, and coffee before departure.
Drew takes the group along an unmarked coastal track -- places that locals have always known but tourists never find. Stories begin here.
The first wreck location -- Drew shares the history of the vessel, when it ran aground, who survived, and how the community responded. Brings out historical photographs where available.
A walk along a remote stretch of Atlantic beach. Drew identifies coastal plants, explains the tidal patterns, and shares fishing community stories from Hondeklip Bay.
A dramatic viewpoint stop -- one of the best photography locations on the entire Northern Cape coast. Drew shares the second major shipwreck story here.
End of the core experience. Groups who opted for the beach lunch (+R300pp) enjoy a meal on the beach before returning to Koingnaas.
