Where diamonds, history and the coast collide
The Copper Trail to Diamond Stories is our signature introduction to the Namaqualand coast -- a half-day journey that weaves together the landscape, the legends, and the living history of Koingnaas and the diamond coast.
Drew Cloete personally guides every group through Boesmanuitkyk viewpoint, one of the most dramatic coastal vantage points in the Northern Cape. From there, the tour follows a coastal route that passes former diamond-mining outposts, historic fishing spots, and sites that hold stories found in no museum or travel guide.
A light meal and coffee are included, shared in a setting that feels like being welcomed into Drew's home. This tour is the perfect starting point for first-time visitors to Namaqualand.
Drew can help coordinate accommodation options when you book. Availability changes by season, so early booking is recommended.
Meet Drew at the Klein Oqis base in Koingnaas. Coffee and a quick introduction to the day -- Drew shares the history of the area before you leave.
The first stop: the most dramatic viewpoint on the Namaqualand coast. Drew explains why this particular point was central to diamond prospectors and early settlers.
Drive through former diamond-prospecting areas. Drew shares personal family stories about the diamond era -- the booms, the hardships, and the communities left behind.
At a coastal stop, Drew recounts the real stories of ships that met their end on this coastline -- stories passed down through generations in Koingnaas.
Return to Klein Oqis for a home-cooked light meal prepared by the Klein Oqis team. Drew continues the stories over food -- this is where guests say the magic really happens.
End of the experience. Drew is always available to answer questions, share recommendations, and connect guests with other local community members.
